Dohlala design

Dominique Robertson launched Dohlala Design in December 2005. It is a one-person business, dedicated to making high quality accessories on a one-off basis at a reasonable price. As a designer-maker, she uses high quality materials, silks, wool, linen, velvet, felt and fake fur, sourced from many different countries around the world. She also draws on her personal collection of fabrics, accumulated through years of enthusiasm and travel, to add details and trimmings to scarves and handbags. Some trimmings are knitted with surprising yarns, mostly Italian, generating a feeling of rich softness to the touch. Others are applied in unusual decorative motifs.

Each scarf, foulard (French for headscarf) or handbag is unique. No design is repeated. However, some designs form part of, and are inspired by, a group theme, such as, 'Bliss at full blast!', 'Red Alert', 'Vert de Green', 'Oh non!', 'Inzebag' and 'I love love' .

The 'Cumulus' scarf is a form invented by Dominique. It consists of a tube of fabric, stitched in such a way as to twist on assembly and tuck into itself around the neck. Here again, only unique examples are made, so that a wearer can be sure of never meeting anyone else with the same scarf.

The website shows a sample of scarves, foulards, wraps, shawls and bags and hats, many of which have already been sold. But the new stock is always under way and the website is updated at least every six months.
